Writing
I write thoughtful pieces about culture, nature, local politics, community, place, travel and other things, and I'm available for freelance commissions, including essays and book reviews. A few of the publications I've written for:
Caught by the River - online nature/arts journal.
Plough Magazine in the US - an award-winning international magazine of stories, ideas, and culture.
I'm a columnist at Spelt Magazine, which celebrates the rural experience.
Lots of book reviews for Geographical Magazine, including books by Robert Macfarlane, James Rebanks and Vandana Shiva.
I was a runner up in the National Geographic Traveller travel writing competition.
Resurgence & Ecologist Magazine - I used to be an Editor at Resurgence (which subsequently merged with The Ecologist). I now write occasional pieces, and am a Contributing Editor at the Ecologist website.
Dartmoor Magazine - I wrote a two-part series on the poets and stories of Dartmoor called 'The Land the Speaks'.
I've also written for charity websites, blogs, and local newspapers. In 2018, I was selected to attend the Rural Writing Institute summer school, taught by bestselling authors James Rebanks and Kathryn Aalto. You can sign up for my newsletter here.
